22/08/2011 - V Festival.
I've spent this weekend working at the V Festival at Weston Park in Staffordshire. I don't think I've ever been so exhausted in my life - 16-hour shifts on Friday, Saturday and Sunday along with just a couple of hours sleep a night. But it'll all be worth it come pay day. =)
The job basically consisted of checking people's passes and wristbands (to make sure they weren't forged and were tight enough that they couldn't be taken off and given to other people) and giving people directions. It was easy enough work, but because the gates I was manning were staff only I ended up arguing with a lot of people who didn't want to walk an extra hundred metres to go down the customer path. I hate arguing with people and giving bad news, so that got old pretty quickly. But I coped.
I was shocked at how many injuries and things we had - the first aid tent was next to where I was working, so all the ambulances came to us. We pretty much had one every five minutes - everything from people drinking their own body weight in alcohol to broken bones and spinal injuries. I know with 90,000 people grouped into one place injuries are inevitable, but it was a little crazy.
Anyway. My fundraising thermometer will be a little fuller once pay day arrives, which will be nice. I just need to catch up on my sleep now.
